About

Abhartach Magazine is not for the faint of heart. We are a gathering of horror enthusiasts, providing a new platform for chilling tales, haunting poetry, grotesque artwork, and in-depth reviews of books, games and film. Our aim is to curate a collection of the most terrifying and original content for our readers, ensuring that terror is always at your fingertips.Abhartach Magazine was created by Lauren Castle. Lauren graduated at the top of her class with a B.A. in English Literature, Media and Cultural Studies. While at University, she was also the secretary of the IADT Horror Society. Soon after graduating, Lauren relocated from Ireland to the English South Coast, where she began freelance writing. She has written short stories, reviews of horror films and literature and creative non-fiction. As a long time fan of the horror genre, she wanted to create a space for other genre fans; where they could publish their work, regardless of their chosen medium or levels of experience.

We are now accepting pitches for Issue 2: It Came From the Deep. Abhartach Magazine's second issue will revolve around all things sea horror, and extend into lakes/rivers/swamps/swimming pools/wells/etc. We're not picky. If there's water somewhere, chances are it will fit the theme! I want to see sirens, deep sea expeditions gone wrong, mysterious waterborne diseases, sea monsters, creepy lake houses and people stranded at sea.71% of the Earth's surface is covered by water and a staggering 95% of the ocean is currently unexplored. The best horror works draw on our real fears, and as incredible as the ocean is, there is also a lot about it that remains unknown. Is anything scarier than the unknown?
